Excursion details:
Among all Cuban natural tourist destinations, Soroa has an special place. Located
in a valley 250 mts above sea level and named after two Basque brothers who amassed
a fortune with their coffee plantations, Soroa is a sort of tropical heaven on earth.
.
The first stop of this excursion is Las Terrazas where you could have a
canopy tour. you will visit a "cafetal" (coffee plantation)
named "Angerona" in which you will receive a detailed explanation of the
coffee cultivation process. This estate witnessed one of the most beautiful love
stories in Cuba between French German Cornelius Sausse and Haitian girl Ursule Lambert.
Another must-see location is the San Juan river with its crystal clear waters.....
Before moving on to Soroa, at noon, there will be stop at a Organic Vegetarian restaurant
to enjoy a animal proteine-free meal.
Just a few minutes away from Las Terrazas you will find Soroa. After
3pm? you will enter a paradisiacal place when you first meet the Salton
waterfalls on the Manantiales river, probably the most photographed attraction of
the area.
Another important stop is the Orquideario (orchid garden) gathering a collection
of more than 700 species, 250 of them endemic, and it is nowadays one of the largest
in the world.
The Orquideario was started by Tomas Felipe Camacho, a lawyer from the Canary Islands,
who had orchids brought from different parts of the world in honour to his daughter
who died of childbirth. This orchid garden stretches along 35,000 ha (86,500 acres).
Last in the tour but not least is the Castillo de las Nubes, a medieval-like building
housing a restaurant with a stunning view to the Sierra del Rosario.
The tour is private. It starts at 8:00 am and will last approximately 8 hours.
All visits with specialised English speaking guide.
